Houseparent Information Session

Black Mountain Home is seeking ministry-minded husband-and-wife couples to serve as Houseparents on our beautiful 90-acre campus. Houseparents play a vital role in our mission by modeling and sharing Christ-centered values while providing a safe, stable, and loving home environment for the youth in our care.

HOUSEPARENTS
Houseparents have empathy, patience, and a genuine, nurturing heart for children who have experienced hardships and trauma. They are resilient, adaptable, and skilled communicators who foster a safe, structured environment while working effectively within a team.

• Empathy and Compassion: The ability to understand trauma-related behaviors and respond with kindness, making children feel seen and understood.
• Patience and Emotional Stability: Remaining calm and consistent in challenging situations.
• Communication & Adaptability: Effectively communicating with children, staff, and families, while adapting to daily changes.
• Role Modeling & Mentorship: Acting as a positive, consistent, and trustworthy adult caregiver.
• Commitment to Safety & Structure: Ensuring a stable environment through routine, organization, and trauma-informed care techniques – we train you.
• Team Player Mentality: Collaborating with caseworkers, leaders, and other staff to support the holistic needs of the children.
• Resilience and Self-Care: Possessing the wisdom and emotional fortitude to handle working with children and youth.

Houseparents work a 2-weeks-on/2-weeks-off shift schedule and live in the home with the youth during their on-shifts. Off-campus housing may be available during off shift. Couples with children at home are welcome
